My Mat-Based Bodywork is deeply rooted Traditional Thai Massage and Shiatsu. The only slight difference is I bring my 9+ years of studying sports, orthopedic and corrective modalities into the work. Your massage will take place on a very comfortable mat (a large Japanese-style futon) on the floor. You will be fully clothed - this allows for more accessibility, better range of motion and unhibited stretching. I will use my hands, fists, elbows, knees and feet to do deep muscle compressions along with mobilization of the joints and deep stretches. this highly effective style of bodywork is like having your whole body, and mind, reset.
What Is Traditional Thai Massage?
Traditional Thai massage (often called Thai Yoga Massage or Nuad Bo-Rarn) is an ancient healing practice rooted in the teachings of Buddha's physician, Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, and drawing influence from Indian Ayurvedic principles and Thai spiritual traditions.
This unique form of bodywork differs significantly from Western massages. Instead of lying on a table and being covered with oils, you remain fully clothed in loose-fitting garments and lie on a mat or mattress on the floor. The therapist then uses their entire body—hands, thumbs, elbows, knees, and feet—to apply pressure on the muscles, and the body's energy pathways (called Sen lines)) and guide you through a series of assisted stretches, similar to yoga poses. The combination of rhythmic compression, stretching, and acupressure aims to release tension, promote energy flow, and restore balance and well-being.
